Panama FIR /
ARTCC
There is a Panamanian division on the IVAO network,
however at this point the division is not officially active because we are few
members from Panama (we are recruiting!). Unofficially the Panamanian division is
active as it has active members, a FIR/ARTCC homepage (this one) and a discussion forum
for our division. We also count on the support from the well organized Colombian division.
That however does not mean there is no life in the region, there is increasing inbound,
outbound and enroute traffic on the Panama FIR. And therefore we have collected the
necessary information to provide these virtual pilots and virtual ATCs with charts and
procedures for IFR flight. Like all other divisions, it is expected that you -whether in
the capacity of pilot or ATC- become familiar and comfortable with these.
These pages collect all the necesary information for virtual aviation traffic
in the Panama region. The Panama Center control area is designated
by the MPZL ICAO code.
Although this is still work in progress, the information herein is
to be considered the guidelines for both virtual pilots and virtual air
traffic controllers operating in the Panama FIR.
It is derived from the
most realistic information available but with alterations for the simulated
environment, therefore it must not be used for real navigation.
The Panama FIR extends roughly from latitude N 4.5° to latitude N 15.0° and
longitude W 77.0 to W 82.0° It limits on the Noreast with Barranquilla Center
(SKEC), the south and southeast with Bogota Center (SKED), the west with Central America
Center (MHTG) and on the north with Kingston Center (MKJK).
Codes and Frequencies
Main Frequencies
| Facility | Description | Frequency |
| MPZL_FSS | Panama FSS | 126.900 |
| MPZL_CTR | Panama Center | 125.500 |
| MPTO_APP | Panama TMA Approach | 119.700 |
| * | Unicom | 126.800 |
These are only the top-level frequencies and therefore we do not show in this
table the frequencies that are airport-specific such as Delivery, Ground and Tower.
Additionally when an aircraft is flying under controlled space within the Panama
FIR, it must be assigned a squawk code as detailed in the next section.
Squawk Codes
The Squawk Codes (SSR) are assigned in the Panama FIR according to the following rules.
Unless otherwise noted, these ranges are the same used in the real FIR so please
refrain from using unauthorized codes.
Valid Squawk (SSR) codes
| Range | Description |
| 04xx | TMA Panama - inbound |
| 06xx | Howard AFB - inbound |
| 10xx | Outbound flights originated in Panama |
| 11xx | En route over MPZL under FL200 |
| 21xx | En route over MPZL at or above FL200 |
| 40xx | Test or training flight (local) |
| 7500 | Hijack (Banned on IVAO) |
| 7600 | Radio Communications failure |
| 7700 | Emergency |
